Freshers' Week Chaos

A student stuggles to stand up after a night out of excessive drinking in Cambridge.

Fresher's week at Cambridge has drawn to a close for another year and again has shown copious amounts of unruly, antisocial and dangerous behaviour by students. This year freshers' week included a range of events, mostly centered around excessive drinking with many students being pressurized into drinking excessively by other students. The events left many students unable to attend lectures which began on the last two days of fresher's week.

A Cambridge student newspaper reported that 1 in 3 drug users tried it for the first time in freshers' week.

These events are similar to those of last year which resulted in a first year law student having to be taken to hospital by ambulance after she fell unconcious in a bar as a result of binge drinking. She was kept under observation overnight before being discharged the next day.
